MONTEREY
Organizations team up to fight obesity
Healthy Eating Lifestyle Principles (HELP) and Leadership Monterey Peninsula have teamed up to fight obesity in Monterey County.
The two organizations plan to launch "Choose Your Life," a public service announcement campaign, by June. Four spots will feature different community "heroes" sharing their stories of how they made positive lifestyle changes and the benefits that came from their choices. The stories will be aired on local television stations and also on HELP's Web site at www.helpunited.org.
Local people to be featured are still being selected. Organizers are looking for people who have lost weight, started exercising, begun cooking healthier or overcome significant challenges on the way to a better life. Mothers, fathers, teens and children of all ages and ethnic origins are encouraged to apply.
HELP was formed by the Monterey County Office of Economic Development and the Monterey County Business Council to stimulate economic stability for the local agricultural industry. The group exists to fight the obesity epidemic and increase consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Leadership Monterey Peninsula is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing strong and effective community leaders since 1982.
