SAVE THE DATE!!!

The last mandated requirement for the wellness policy is measuring the implementation of the wellness policy itself. An evaluation report of the district wellness policy is to be provided to each local board of education every two years. This seminar will provide a toolkit and training to give each school district the ability to evaluate their individual wellness policy.

UPCOMING CONFERENCE

CSBA, the California Department of Education and the California Department of Public Health have joined forces to sponsor the 2009 School Wellness Conference Oct. 6-7 at the Anaheim Marriott. HELP's Jessica McKillip, Program Manager, will be attending this conference for discussions concerning community and family engagement; health services and education; healthy and safe school environments; mental health; nutrition education and services; physical education and activity; school wellness policies; and staff wellness. UPCOMING CONFERENCE

HELP's Executive Director, Suzanne du Verrier, and Program Manager, Jessica McKillip will be attending the 2009 Childhood Obesity Conference held in Los Angeles, CA. This conference offers several tracks of information:

• Research Track offers the latest information on childhood obesity prevention research.
• Healthcare Track will provide conference attendees with an update on prevention and treatment guidelines for childhood obesity and its associated comorbidities, as well as treatment challenges and dilemmas that come with treating severe obesity.
• Early Childhhod Track will focus on the critical stage of human development in which the foundation is laid for later year behaviors.
• Schools and After School Track will highlight promising strategies and practices, along with the challenges and constraints facing obesity prevention efforts in schools and after school program settings.
• Community Track will provide useful, in-depth information for preventing childhood obesity by addressing policy and environmental changes in low-income, culturally diverse communities.
• Marketing Track will explore the impact of food and beverage marketing on obesity issues.
